SharkNinja is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co-op to join our team in Needham, MA. You will work alongside engineers to bring home innovations from concept through testing and launch, participating in the full product lifecycle.
The role emphasizes hands-on development, rapid iteration, and cross-functional collaboration in a startup-like environment backed by a global brand. As a student or recent graduate, you will gain experience with CAD, prototyping, electronics, and manufacturing
Qualifications
- Current student in a related bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD program, or recent graduate.
- Hands-on development experience with plastic and metal prototypes across labs or shops.
- Familiarity with CAD tools, 3D printing, laser cutting and basic lab equipment.
- Interest in bringing consumer home products to life with robust engineering solutions.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to concepting and development of next-gen products by brainstorming, sketching, and prototyping bold ideas.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, designers, and product managers to explore solutions to real-world consumer challenges.
- Build, test, and iterate prototypes and lab rigs while validating performance, usability, and reliability.
- Analyze data from testing and consumer feedback to inform design decisions and improve product functionality.
- Participate in technical deep-dives and design reviews to troubleshoot issues and propose practical solutions.
- Take ownership of engineering tasks with increasing complexity, including materials, mechanisms, and manufacturing considerations.
- Support design feasibility analyses, CAD modeling, and technical documentation with experienced engineers.
- Understand the user journey and drive innovations that delight users.

As a Mechanical Engineering Co-op, you'll work side-by-side with a world-class team of engineers to bring category-disrupting home innovations to life. - Contribute to the concepting and development of next-gen products by brainstorming, sketching, and prototyping bold ideas
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, designers, and product managers to explore innovative solutions to real-world consumer challenges
- Build, test, and iterate prototypes and lab rigs while gaining hands-on experience in validating performance, usability, and reliability

- Take ownership of engineering tasks with increasing complexity, gaining exposure to materials, mechanisms, manufacturing, and mass production considerations
- Support design feasibility analysis, CAD modeling, and technical documentation alongside experienced engineers

- Education: Current student in a related bachelor's or master’s or PhD program or has graduated from such a program within the past year
- Must be able to work a full-time, 40-hour-per-week schedulewith 5 daysper week onsite in Needham, MA
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering/physics fundamentals including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design.
- Solid analytical skills, attention to detail, and relentless drive to identify potential problems and take responsibility for their resolution.
- Intellectual curiosity and creativity, strong first principles thinking, positive can-do attitude, and proven ability to deliver robust, elegant, and innovative solutions to complex design challenges.
- Willingness to roll up sleeves and dive into hands-on development and testing workstreams.
- Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical colleagues clearly, effectively, and concisely.
- Comfortable multitasking and responding quickly to shifting priorities without losing sight of longer-term projects.

- Exposure to CAD program (ideally SolidWorks or Creo) and/or 3D printing/laser cutting.
- Experience with hands-on prototype development in plastic and metal including using basic machine shop tools.
- Familiarity with electronics (analog/digital), test equipment, and components common in small appliances (sensors, motors, heaters, PCBAs, etc.)
- Can identify, solve, implement and verify technical solutions autonomously and as part of a team.
- \"Hands-on\" building of prototypes, experimental testing of some sort, either in the workshop or in a science context.
- Experience with Developer kits such as Python, Arduino, Raspberry Pi is desirable.
