Job summary

SharkNinja is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to spend the summer with a world-class engineering team in Needham, MA. You will work on category-disrupting home innovations, helping bring concepts from idea through testing and launch.

You'll gain hands-on experience solving technical challenges, building prototypes, and translating consumer needs into robust engineering solutions with guidance from senior engineers. This is a dynamic, startup-spirited program backed by a global brand.

Qualifications

  • Current student in a related bachelor's or master’s or has graduated within the past year.
  • Must be able to work full-time, 40 hours/week, onsite in Needham, MA.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering/physics fundamentals.
  • Solid analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Hands-on prototype development experience in plastic and metal with basic machine shop tools.
  • Familiarity with electronics (sensors, motors, PCBs) and test equipment.
  • Experience with Python, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to concepting and development of next-gen Ninja products by brainstorming, sketching, and prototyping bold ideas.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, designers, and product managers to solve real-world consumer challenges.
  • Build, test, and iterate prototypes and lab rigs to validate performance, usability, and reliability.
  • Analyze data from testing and consumer feedback to inform design decisions.
  • Participate in design reviews to identify root causes and propose practical solutions.
  • Own engineering tasks with increasing complexity, including materials, mechanisms, and manufacturing considerations.
  • Support CAD modeling and technical documentation with experienced engineers.
  • Understand user journeys and drive innovations that delight customers.

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you’ll spend the summer working side-by-side with a world-class team of engineers to bring category-disrupting home innovations to life. You’ll gain hands‑on experience solving complex technical challenges, building and iterating on prototypes, and translating real consumer needs into breakthrough engineering solutions. From your first day, you’ll be immersed in the product development process, helping us deliver high-performance, beautifully designed SharkNinja products that enhance daily living across the home.

  • Contribute to the concepting and development of next-gen Ninja products by brainstorming, sketching, and prototyping bold ideas

  • Support design feasibility analysis, CAD modeling, and technical documentation alongside experienced engineers

  • Dive into the "why" behind the product, understanding the user journey and driving innovations that surprise and delight

ATTRIBUTES & SKILLS:


  • Education: Current student in a related bachelor's or master’s or PhD program or has graduated from such a program within the past year

  • Must be able to work a full-time, 40-hour-per-week schedulewith 5 daysper week onsite in Needham, MA

  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering/physics fundamentals including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design.

  • Solid analytical skills, attention to detail, and relentless drive to identify potential problems and take responsibility for their resolution.

  • Intellectual curiosity and creativity, strong first principles thinking, positive can-do attitude, and proven ability to deliver robust, elegant, and innovative solutions to complex design challenges.

  • Willingness to roll up sleeves and dive into hands‑on development and testing workstreams.

  • Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical colleagues clearly, effectively, and concisely.

  • Comfortable multitasking and responding quickly to shifting priorities without losing sight of longer‑term projects.

  • passionate about product design & function.

  • Exposure to CAD program (ideally SolidWorks or Creo) and/or 3D printing/laser cutting.

  • Experience with hands‑on prototype development in plastic and metal including using basic machine shop tools.

  • Familiarity with electronics (analog/digital), test equipment, and components common in small appliances (sensors, motors, heaters, PCBAs, etc.)

  • Can identify, solve, implement and verify technical solutions autonomously and as part of a team.

  • “Hands‑on” building of prototypes, experimental testing of some sort, either in the workshop or in a science context.

  • Experience with Developer kits such as Python, Arduino, Raspberry Pi is desirable.


Salary and Other Compensation:

The hourly salary range for this position is displayed below. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

Hourly Pay Range

$27 - $40 USD
