Job Description:
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY
Assist Product Development mechanical engineers in the conceptualization, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of new and existing product designs using sound mechanical engineering principles in support of company business development efforts, marketing plans and department plans. Analyze specifications, as well as business, technology & cost requirements, and implement appropriate, approved designs in a timely and cost-effective manner. Take steps necessary to ensure product reliability, performance, and customer acceptance.
Primary Duties
- Under the guidance of the Mechanical Engineering Manager and lead mechanical engineers, conceptualize, and develop material handling products using sound mechanical engineering principles
- Adhere to suitable design and documentation practices and methodologies
- Support internal and external customers in product use and application as required
- Support vendors in product and sub-component fabrication as required
- Adhere to project timelines and budgets
- Participate in Product Development department projects as assigned
- Participate on company teams as assigned
- Participate in the execution of functional as well as accelerated life tests to ensure product reliability and performance
SECONDARY DUTIES
- Provide support and documentation to enable company staff to quote and source materials
- Participate in the identification and recommendation of new material handling technology solutions
- Serve as a technical resource to other departments as required
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Execute ECR’s (Engineering Change Requests)
- Execute ECN’s (Engineering Change Notices)
- Create and maintain CAD solid models, assemblies, and detailed drawings in SolidWorks
- Perform FEA (Finite Element Analysis) using SolidWorks Simulation
- Develop and maintain organized supporting design calculations
- Create and maintain product BOM’s & Routings in ERP software CSI9 (CloudSuite Industrial)
Minimum Requirements
- Enrollment in a 4-year Mechanical Engineering degree program
- Highly motivated with the ability to meet tight deadlines and high-quality requirements
- Strong communication skills (Verbal & Written)
- Problem solving skills
- Detail oriented
Desired Experience
- SolidWorks
- Drafting
- Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning (GD&T)
- FEA using SolidWorks Simulation
- Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- AutoCAD

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Gorbel, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
A reasonable estimate of the current range is $20/hour.
