Job summary

System One is seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer (Vessels & Structures) for a contract role in Corvallis, OR. The position focuses on design and stress analyses of pressure vessels and NSSS components for a modular ALWR, using ANSYS and CAD tools.

You will mentor junior engineers and lead technical efforts within the NSSS Component Engineering group. The ideal candidate holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering, has 10+ years of ANSYS-based analysis experience, and is familiar with DOE

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 10 years of full-time experience with ANSYS stress analysis per ASME BPVC Section III.
  • Proficiency with ANSYS and CAD tools.
  • Experience with programming: ANSYS APDL, MATLAB or Python.
  • Eligible to work under DOE 10 CFR Part 810.
  • Strong knowledge of nuclear pressure vessel codes and regulations.
  • Excellent problem solving, communication, planning and leadership.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design and stress analyses of pressure vessels and supports per ASME BPVC III and regulatory requirements.
  • Generate design parameters for NSSS components of a modular ALWR.
  • Ensure NSSS components meet industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Evaluate components for pressure, mechanical/thermal loadings (Primary Stress, Fatigue).
  • Use ANSYS and CAD for stress analysis and design optimization.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers; act as technical lead in NSSS Component Engineering.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve issues and improve designs.
  • Participate in review and approval of engineering documents and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME NQA-1 quality assurance and NRC guidelines.

Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer (Vessels & Structures)
Location: Corvallis, OR
Type: Contract

Responsibilities
  • Perform design and stress analyses of pressure vessels and primary equipment supports in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Generate technical requirements and design parameters for NSSS components of a modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR).
  • Utilize proven methodologies to ensure NSSS components meet industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Conduct evaluations of components for pressure, mechanical/thermal loadings, including Primary Stress, Fatigue, and stress intensity ranges.
  • Use ANSYS finite element software and CAD packages for stress analysis and design optimization.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and serve as a technical lead within the NSSS Component Engineering organization.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical issues and improve design processes.
  • Participate in review and approval of engineering documents and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and NRC guidelines.
Requirements
  • A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • At least 10 years of full-time relevant engineering experience, specifically utilizing ANSYS for stress analysis per ASME BPVC Section III.
  • Proficiency with ANSYS finite element software and CAD packages.
  • Experience with computer programming languages such as ANSYS APDL, Matlab, or Python is preferred.
  • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
  • Strong knowledge of industry codes, standards, and regulations related to nuclear pressure vessel design and analysis.
  • Excellent problem solving, communication, planning, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams, managing large projects with minimal oversight.
  • Physical ability to communicate effectively, learn new concepts quickly, and travel as needed.
