Job summary

NuScale Power, LLC is seeking an experienced engineer to design and analyze Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) piping under ASME BPVC Section III and NRC guidelines. The role supports the modular ALWR NSSS design within the NSSS engineering team, delivering technical requirements, drawings and CAD models in NX in collaboration with drafters.

Responsibilities include piping stress analysis using Bentley AutoPIPE and ANSYS, pipe support design, and leading design solution evaluations.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited engineering degree required, advanced degree preferred.
  • PE license required; ASME BPVC Section III certifying engineer experience preferred.
  • Experience with piping stress analysis and ASME Section III NB/NC/ND-3600 and NF applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Design and stress analyze NSSS piping systems per ASME BPVC III and NRC guidelines.
  • Perform static/dynamic analysis (deadweight, thermal, seismic, transients).
  • Lead design evaluations for piping re-routing and supports; review drawings and NX models.
  • Mentor early career engineers in piping stress and pipe supports; ensure QA compliance.

Job description

NOTE: THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR REMOTE WORK IF RESIDING MORE THEN 30 MILES FROM A PHYSICAL NUSCALE OFFICE. WORK MUST BE PERFORMED WITHIN THE CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES WITH TRAVEL AS REQUIRED FOR BUSINESS NEEDS.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager, NSSS Piping and Integration, this position performs design and analysis of the Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) pipe systems in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III and applicable regulatory requirements. This position is part of the NSSS design engineering organization that generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS. Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards. All work within the NSSS design organization is completed under ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and respective U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Possesses excellent knowledge in functional discipline and its practical application and has detailed knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards and regulations
  • Performs complex piping design and stress analysis of ASME BPVC Section III Class 1, 2, and 3 piping systems using the Bentley AutoPIPE computer program in accordance with the requirements of NB, NC, ND-3600, respectively.
  • Performs piping design and stress analysis of ASME BPVC Section III Class 1, 2, and 3 piping components using the ANSYS computer program in accordance with the requirements of NB-3200.
  • Performs pipe support design and stress analysis of ASME BPVC Section III NF supports using hand calculations or ANSYS computer program.
  • Performs static and dynamic analysis including response spectrum and time history analysis to calculate stresses due to deadweight, thermal expansion, thermal gradients, seismic events, and fluid transients.
  • Prepare and review engineering specifications, drawings, CAD models, and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of piping components associated with NSSS systems. The development of Drawings and CAD models is based on collaboration with drafters and requires the engineer to reviews models that have been developed in Siemens NX.
  • Leads the evaluation of design solutions (piping re-route, reconfigurations of supports, etc) which satisfy piping stress criteria.
  • Works on complex tasks in multiple and diverse areas.
  • Interprets scope and project requirements.
  • Acquires, maintains and develops training qualifications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Provides oversight and mentoring to early career engineers in the area of piping stress analysis and/or pipe support analysis.
  • Certifies design specification for ASME BPVC Section III Piping and/or Piping Supports

Minimum Skills, Qualifications And Abilities
  • Education/Certification: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering, from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required. Advanced degree is preferred. PE License in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering is required. Certifying Engineer experience to ASME BPVC Section III is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years of highly relevant, full-time engineering experience is required. Experience with the qualification of piping systems including ball joints is desirable. Subject Matter Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Engineering design and piping stress engineering analysis in the nuclear industry.
    • Bentley AutoPIPE or other comparable pipe analysis code.
    • ASME Section III Class 1, 2, and 3 piping systems (NB/NC/ND-3600) and/or piping supports (NF).
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Pay And Benefits

The target pay range for this position is $152,520 - $184,076 annually. The full pay range is $136,742 – $213,878 annually.
