Job summary

System One is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (Vessels & Structures) in Corvallis, OR for a contract role. You will perform design and stress analyses of pressure vessels and primary equipment supports according to ASME BPVC Section III, generating NSSS component requirements for an ALWR module.

You will mentor junior engineers, lead technical efforts, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve issues while ensuring compliance with NQA-1 and NRC guidelines. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Engineering, ABET-accredited.
  • At least 10 years of full-time relevant engineering experience using ANSYS for stress analysis per ASME BPVC.
  • Proficiency with ANSYS and CAD packages.
  • Experience with ANSYS APDL, Matlab, or Python preferred.
  • Eligible to work under DOE 10 CFR Part 810.
  • Strong knowledge of nuclear pressure vessel design standards.
  • Excellent problem solving, communication, planning and leadership.
  • Ability to work independently and with multidisciplinary teams; manage large projects with minimal oversight.
  • Willingness to travel.

Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer (Vessels & Structures)
Location: Corvallis, OR
Type: Contract

Responsibilities
  • Perform design and stress analyses of pressure vessels and primary equipment supports in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Generate technical requirements and design parameters for NSSS components of a modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR).
  • Utilize proven methodologies to ensure NSSS components meet industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Conduct evaluations of components for pressure, mechanical/thermal loadings, including Primary Stress, Fatigue, and stress intensity ranges.
  • Use ANSYS finite element software and CAD packages for stress analysis and design optimization.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and serve as a technical lead within the NSSS Component Engineering organization.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical issues and improve design processes.
  • Participate in review and approval of engineering documents and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and NRC guidelines.
Requirements
  • A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • At least 10 years of full-time relevant engineering experience, specifically utilizing ANSYS for stress analysis per ASME BPVC Section III.
  • Proficiency with ANSYS finite element software and CAD packages.
  • Experience with computer programming languages such as ANSYS APDL, Matlab, or Python is preferred.
  • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
  • Strong knowledge of industry codes, standards, and regulations related to nuclear pressure vessel design and analysis.
  • Excellent problem solving, communication, planning, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams, managing large projects with minimal oversight.
  • Physical ability to communicate effectively, learn new concepts quickly, and travel as needed.
