Job summary

CRB is seeking a Senior Lead Mechanical Engineer in the United States to oversee HVAC and mechanical utility systems for complex facilities. You will guide design teams, manage budgets, and ensure quality across project phases from concept through construction.

The role requires a PE license, 15+ years of experience, and strong coordination with clients and trades. Expect leadership in master planning, energy modeling, and code compliance within a collaborative CRB environment.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering(with a mechanical focus).
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience for Senior Lead position
  • Professional Engineer registration in good standing
  • Expert experience with performing engineering calculations, and developing and implementing HVAC, mechanical utility and piping systemsdesigns
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Advanced experience with using and applying the mechanical/plumbing/fire/buildingcodes
  • Advanced experience using and applying applicable industry standards(ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISPE, FDA, ISO, NFPA, OSHA, etc.)
  • Advanced experience conducting and leading field surveys of existing conditions and support of fieldreporting

Responsibilities

  • Directs and manages the workflows and execution of design and engineering support staff (Entry-Level to Senior) to meet client expectations and project goals.
  • Coordinates with internal and external parties, manages multiple complex tasks, establishes priorities and directs the work of others.
  • Works with a Project Manager on proposal development, design task identification, man-hour planning and project scheduling for the discipline scope of work on advanced level projects.
  • Identifies and resolves advanced non-compliant existing conditions during site walks and construction field surveys.
  • Develops advanced internal mechanical design and engineering training presentations.
  • Develops narratives, reports and construction drawing packages and writes construction specifications on advanced and complex projects without oversight.
  • Provides lead and advanced support of construction activities such as RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development and construction progress reports.
  • Conducts technical and leadership interviews.
  • Conducts quality checking of documents for advanced complex projects... and drives overall project quality.
  • Provides mentorship to less experienced Mechanical Engineers and/or Designers.
  • Leads advanced project system design programming and master planning with minimal or no support from Senior Engineer.
  • Leads a team of mechanical staff in the execution of advanced projects discipline design and engineering.
  • Provides oversight and technical leadership to other offices and related functions.
  • Provides industry-level perspective and guidance to frame business strategy in the face of evolving technology or client buying behavior.

TheSenior Lead MechanicalEngineer focuses on the design and engineering of HVAC and mechanicalutilitiesfor buildings. The individual possesses demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex tasks,coordinate with internal and external parties,establish priorities and direct the work of others. Typical tasks and deliverables that are executed by or under the supervision of the Senior Lead include site selection, master planning, commissioning and startup, load calculations, utility assessments, energy modeling, design reports, code evaluations, plans, P&IDs, schedules, HAZOP reviews, installation details,equipment and system selection and specification, and coordination with manufacturers and trade partners. Project work includes directing design activities for all levels of design such as studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documentation and construction administration.The Senior Lead understands the development and field implementation of documents through all project phases, sizes and levels of complexity.

TheSenior Lead Mechanical Engineeris responsible forproviding oversight for the discipline at a project, office and regional level. They oversee the Mechanical discipline scope of work and managesthe discipline budget on all project phases, sizes and levels of complexity, anddirects and manages the workflows and execution of design and engineering support staff (Entry-Level to Senior) to meet client expectations and project goals.TheSeniorLead Engineer may work independently or at the direction of the Project Manager.

  • LEED, WELL or other sustainable design accredited professionalor, experience with sustainabledesign
  • Proficient with advanced internal and external cross-discipline project team coordination
  • Proficient with advanced coordination with construction trade partners, vendors and manufacturers
  • Advanced experience with troubleshooting issues with mechanical systems
