Job summary

CRB seeks a Senior Lead Mechanical Engineer in Maryland to lead HVAC and mechanical utility design across complex life sciences and food & beverage projects. You will oversee discipline scope, budgets, and cross-functional teams.

Requirements include ABET Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering, PE in good standing, 15+ years’ experience, and advanced knowledge of codes and standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, ISO).

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering (mechanical focus).
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience for Senior Lead position.
  • Professional Engineer registration in good standing.
  • Expert in HVAC, mechanical utility and piping system design and calculations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical/plumbing/fire/building codes.
  • Advanced knowledge of industry standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISPE, FDA, ISO, NFPA, OSHA, etc.).
  • Experience leading field surveys of existing conditions and field reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and manages workflows of design and engineering staff to meet client expectations.
  • Coordinates with internal and external parties and manages multiple tasks.
  • Collaborates with Project Manager on proposals, task IDs, man-hour planning and project scheduling.
  • Identifies and resolves advanced non-compliant conditions during site surveys.
  • Attends external seminars for professional development.
  • Develops advanced internal mechanical design and training presentations.
  • Creates narratives, reports and construction drawing packages with specs.
  • Leads construction activities: RFI responses, submittals, punch lists.
  • Conducts technical and leadership interviews.
  • Performs quality checks of documents to ensure project quality.
  • Mentors less experienced engineers and designers.
  • Leads advanced system design and master planning with minimal supervision.
  • Leads a team of mechanical staff across design and engineering.
  • Provides technical leadership to other offices and functions.
  • Guides business strategy with industry perspective.

TheSenior Lead MechanicalEngineer focuses on the design and engineering of HVAC and mechanicalutilitiesfor buildings. The individual possesses demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex tasks,coordinate with internal and external parties,establish priorities and direct the work of others. Typical tasks and deliverables that are executed by or under the supervision of the Senior Lead include site selection, master planning, commissioning and startup, load calculations, utility assessments, energy modeling, design reports, code evaluations, plans, P&IDs, schedules, HAZOP reviews, installation details,equipment and system selection and specification, and coordination with manufacturers and trade partners. Project work includes directing design activities for all levels of design such as studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documentation and construction administration.The Senior Lead understands the development and field implementation of documents through all project phases, sizes and levels of complexity.

TheSenior Lead Mechanical Engineeris responsible forproviding oversight for the discipline at a project, office and regional level. They oversee the Mechanical discipline scope of work and managesthe discipline budget on all project phases, sizes and levels of complexity, anddirects and manages the workflows and execution of design and engineering support staff (Entry-Level to Senior) to meet client expectations and project goals.TheSeniorLead Engineer may work independently or at the direction of the Project Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinateswith internal and external parties, managesmultiple complex tasks, establishespriorities and directsthe work of others.
  • Workswith a Project Manageronproposal development,design task identification,man-hour planningandproject scheduling for the discipline scope of work on advanced level projects.
  • Identifiesand resolvesadvanced non-compliant existing conditions during site walks and construction field surveys.
  • Attendsexternal seminars/conferences for professional development.
  • Developsadvanced internal mechanical design and engineering training presentations.
  • Developsnarratives, reports andconstruction drawing packages and writesconstruction specifications on advanced and complex projects without oversight.
  • Provides lead and advancedsupport of construction activities such as RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development and construction progress reports.
  • Conductstechnical and leadership interviews.
  • Conductsquality checking of documents for advanced complex projects(e.g., technical verification of design calculations and documentation)and drivesoverall project quality.
  • Providesmentorship toless experienced Mechanical Engineers and/or Designers.
  • Leadsadvanced project system design programming and master planning withminimal or nosupport from Senior Engineer.
  • Leadsa team of mechanical staff in the execution of advanced projects discipline design and engineering.
  • Provides oversight and technical leadership to other offices and related functions such as Business Development, Technical Advancement and Vertical Markets.
  • Provides industry-level perspective and guidance to frame business strategy in the face of evolving technology or client buying behavior.
  • ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical EngineeringorArchitectural Engineering(witha mechanicalfocus)
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience for Senior Lead position
  • ProfessionalEngineer registrationin good standing
  • Expert experience with performing engineering calculations, and developing and implementing HVAC, mechanical utility and piping systemsdesigns
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Advancedexperience with using and applying the mechanical/plumbing/fire/buildingcodes
  • Advanced experience using and applying applicable industry standards(ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISPE, FDA, ISO, NFPA, OSHA, etc.)
  • Advanced experience conducting and leading field surveys of existing conditions and support of fieldreporting
Preferred Qualifications
  • ProficiencyinRevit
  • Life Sciences (Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Laboratory) or Food & Beverage industry experience
  • Advanced knowledge ofcGMPsand/or experience with advanced technology industry projects such as R&D labs, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, foodandbeverage,and/or consumer products
  • LEED, WELL or other sustainable design accredited professionalor, experience with sustainabledesign
  • Proficient with advanced internal and external cross-discipline project team coordination
  • Proficient with advanced coordination with construction trade partners, vendors and manufacturers
  • Advanced experience with troubleshooting issues with mechanical systems
