Job summary

The Dennis Group is a leader in planning, design, engineering, and construction of food plants. This role sits in the mechanical department and focuses on delivering robust engineering from concept through execution.

You will perform load calculations, equipment sizing, P&ID development, and coordination with electrical and controls engineers, with travel 35-50% to field sites. Strong technical writing and collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Experience with heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics.
• Experience with utility systems (boilers, chillers, compressed air) designs and specifications.
• Proficiency in engineering calculations (energy, drainage, line loss, etc.).
• Experience with AutoCAD or Revit.
• Industrial manufacturing experience preferred.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel 35-50%.

Responsibilities

• Complete engineering on a project from conceptual design through execution.
• Perform heating and cooling load calculations.
• Perform mass energy balance calculations.
• Perform drainage and line loss calculations.
• Equipment sizing and selection.
• Develop P&ID's, layout plans, piping, and system details.
• P&ID design & drafting.
• Create equipment schedules.
• Assist with BMS controls development with electrical and controls engineers.
• Provide cost estimation and scheduling to PMs.
• Present engineering findings to client.
• Code reviews for HVAC/plumbing/fire protection designs.
• Discipline lead for commissioning activities.
• Research mechanical / utility materials and best practices.
• Provide coaching/mentoring to a subordinate group.
