Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Mechanical Engineer – Optics, Satellites (Starlink) in Redmond, WA. You will own mechanical, electro-mechanical, and actuator hardware from concept through on-orbit operation, designing precision mechanisms and integrating electronics for flight hardware.

You will work with cross-functional teams to optimize mass, stiffness, and manufacturability, and lead testing and qualification efforts for space-grade hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 1+ years of CAD, design, analysis, testing or manufacturing experience.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical, electro-mechanical hardware from concept to on-orbit operation.
• Design precision mechanisms and actuators meeting pointing and stiffness goals.
• Develop structural designs and load paths for laser terminals or payloads.
• Integrate electronics into flight hardware and harnessing.
• Iterate designs and analyses to inform system trades.
• Drive manufacturability and assembly for SpaceX terminals and related hardware.
• Create CAD models with GD&T; release designs to production.
• Define and execute development, qualification, and acceptance testing.
• Lead root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
• Collaborate with optical, electrical, thermal, manufacturing, and supply chain teams.
• Own delivery timeline from conception to launch.
