Job summary

Smiths Group, in Pasadena, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support Sales and Aftermarket with application drawing office work and CAD-based proposals. You will troubleshoot, assist with commissioning issues, and collaborate with global teams to ensure designs meet customer needs.

The role requires a technical degree, CAD proficiency, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Onsite work is expected with regular office hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical Eng. preferred).
• Minimum 2 years of experience with mechanical seals and/or rotating equipment.
• Working knowledge of CAD and related software.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Review & process application requests.
• Prepare detailed drawing office requests for GA and detail drawings.
• Use CAD to create proposal drawings and liaise with global drawing offices.
• Apply standard techniques and select products to meet customer needs for seals.
• Perform calculations (heat generation, torque values, thrust loads, flow rates).
• Generate engineering proposals and specifications for standard and custom designs.
• Coordinate with Sales/Project originators to ensure design meets application.
• Record activity in iProjects & Lean Kit; respond promptly to internal customers.
• Provide day-to-day technical support to Regional Sales and Service teams.
• Follow John Crane standards, procedures, and policies.
• Approve/reject/rework fabrication not to drawing spec.
• Raise/process/approve ECN requests.
• Manage workload to meet objectives; promote continuous improvement.
• Contribute to a safe and efficient working environment following HSE procedures.
