Job summary

Mechanical Seal & Service is seeking an experienced designer to provide engineering drafting, technical design support, and dimensional analysis for standard and custom seals. You will create detailed drawings, develop seal designs, and support manufacturing with BOMs and documentation.

The role is hands-on and focuses on design execution, with collaboration across sales, service, and workshop teams to resolve design issues and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor degree in mechanical engineering technology or related field.
  • 3–5 years drafting or design experience; 5–7 years preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create engineering drawings with tolerances.
  • Experience with CAD design and document control systems.

Responsibilities

Job description

Provide engineering drafting, technical design support, drawing creation, and dimensional analysis for standard and custom sealing solutions. This role supports the Senior API Seal Conversion Engineer by creating detailed drawings, performing technical assessments, generating BOMs, and developing seal designs based on established engineering practices. This position is a hands‑on technical role focused on design execution rather than high-level application engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design & Drafting
    • Create detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings for seals, components, and support systems.
    • Modify existing seal designs to suit customer equipment requirements.
    • Produce 2D and 3D models using approved engineering software.
    • Generate detailed component drawings, exploded assemblies, and production documentation.
    • Maintain drawing revisions and engineering records.
  • Technical Assessment
    • Review customer drawings and dimensional information to determine seal fit.
    • Perform dimensional comparisons between customer equipment and existing seal designs.
    • Support seal conversion projects through drafting and documentation activities.
    • Assist with technical evaluations of competitor seals and legacy designs.
    • Create engineering packages for manufacturing and procurement.
  • Product Support
    • Support sales and customer service teams with technical information.
    • Create BOMs, SAP material codes, and manufacturing documentation.
    • Assist with quotation preparation by providing technical reviews and design support.
    • Coordinate with workshop and manufacturing personnel to resolve design-related issues.
    • Assist with custom seal designs and engineered modifications.
    • Support testing and validation activities.
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Maintain technical databases and engineering documentation.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting Technology, or related technical field preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, preferred.
  • 3-5 years of drafting, design, or technical support experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment. 5-7 years’ experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create engineering and manufacturing drawings.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of dimensions, tolerances, and assembly drawings.
  • Experience with TeamCenter, PDM systems, or other engineering document control systems.
  • Experience in CAD Design & Drafting, Drawing Interpretation, Dimensional Analysis, BOM Creation, Technical Documentation, Mechanical Design Support
Physical Requirements
  • This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, lift up to 50 pounds, reach with hands and arms, climb, bend, crawl, squat, and see.
