Job summary

FIRST, based in Manchester, NH, seeks an experienced engineer to design, prototype, test, document, and support the FIRST Robotics Competition game and playing field. You will drive the game concept process, produce prototypes, and help craft manuals and demonstrations with Gracious Professionalism®.

This role requires collaboration with staff and volunteers, adherence to specs, and onsite work in New England, with 5–10% travel. A strong background in CAD and fabrication is essential.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in an engineering related discipline, with a minimum of 2 years directly-related experience.
• Basic shop skills and competence using basic hand and power tools.
• Must have a history of successfully meeting specifications and cost, timing, and reliability targets.
• Proficiency in CAD programs such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo or other parametric CAD program; Onshape experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, and test components used in the FIRST Robotics Competition.
• Generate and refine game concepts, create prototypes, aid in game discussion, write the FRC game manual, and design/build demonstration robots.
• Create technical drawings and assembly documentation for external production vendors.
• Collaborate with engineering staff to create training documentation for volunteers.
