Job summary

Domtar is seeking a Maintenance Engineer for our Plymouth, North Carolina pulp mill to maintain mechanical equipment and drive reliability improvements. You will lead a crew when the supervisor is away and work with cross-functional teams to plan and execute maintenance and outages.

The role requires a mechanical engineering degree and 1–4 years of industrial mill experience, with strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 1–4 years of experience in an industrial mill as a Mechanical/Maintenance Engineer.
• Experience on projects with an operating company or engineering firm is an asset.
• Experience in construction management and/or maintenance in industrial/process plant environment.
• Ability to work with all levels of the organization.
• Pre-employment checks including drug/alcohol screen and fitness-for-duty test may apply.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and track preventive maintenance schedules to maximize equipment uptime and minimize breakdowns.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues.
• Recommend and implement upgrades or modifications to improve equipment performance and reliability.
• Ensure safety, health, and environmental regulations compliance (OSHA/EPA).
• Maintain detailed CMMS records of maintenance activities and history.
• Coordinate maintenance schedules with production, operations, and management; communicate with stakeholders.
• Lead the mechanical maintenance crew in the supervisor's absence and oversee contractors.
• Assist outage planning with developed job planning skills.
