Job summary

Atlas Copco is seeking a Project Engineer in Michigan City, IN to drive successful execution of custom industrial vacuum system projects from hand-off to delivery. You will translate customer requirements into engineered solutions, coordinate cross-functional teams, and support production with guidance and troubleshooting.

The role emphasizes technical integrity, cost control, schedule adherence, and alignment across departments to deliver high-quality systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • 3-5 years of work experience in an industrial environment, with engineering background.
  • Knowledge of vacuum systems skid design, piping, components, and fabrication is preferred.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with MS Project or similar scheduling tools.
  • Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and piping design.
  • Knowledge of valve and instrumentation selection.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform CAD design work and prepare detailed components and assembly drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Apply fluid mechanics and thermodynamics principles for piping design and component selection.
  • Select appropriate system components and createBills of Materials (BOMs) using ERP software.
  • Ensure proper coordination with other functional areas involved.
  • Maintain awareness of project cost and schedule to meet customer expectations.
  • Participate in customer witness testing and analyzetest data to validate performance.
  • Communicate progress and deliverable updates to the stakeholders, raise red flags, and highlightany concerns.
  • Review and interpret customer specifications to ensure project compliance.
  • Collaborate with Applications Engineering as needed.
  • Maintain project engineering schedule
  • Assist manufacturing with resolving design issues, component shortages, or quality concerns.
  • Support Purchasing withpart procurement.
  • Foster a team spirit towards driving success and improving business results.
  • Develop and manageproject schedules using MS Project.
  • Review and aid in the design release approval process.
