Job summary

HD Hyundai Power Transformers USA, Inc. in Montgomery, AL is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to drive the mechanical design of large power transformers from customer requirements through manufacturing release.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years of mechanical design experience in transformer manufacturing or heavy electrical equipment.
• Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software such as AutoCAD and Siemens NX, Creo, Inventor, or similar.
• Familiarity with ANSYS/Nastran or similar FEA tools.

Responsibilities

• Develop 2D/3D mechanical layouts, models, customer drawings, and manufacturing drawings using CAD tools.
• Design transformer tanks, covers, stiffeners, radiators/coolers, piping, platforms, brackets, lifting lugs, jacking pads, and related components.
• Verify clearances, interfaces, foundation requirements, shipping configurations, manufacturability, and site constraints.
• Perform mechanical calculations for pressure/vacuum, structural strength, lifting/jacking, transport, seismic and wind loading; use FEA when required.
• Prepare and maintain BOMs, material specs, drawings, calculations, and project documentation.
• Interpret customer specifications and IEEE/ANSI/IEC requirements into practical designs.
• Coordinate with engineering, quality, purchasing, suppliers, and manufacturing to resolve issues.
• Provide engineering support to fabrication, assembly, testing, field service, and production.
• Support design-for-manufacturing, cost reduction, and on-time delivery of engineering deliverables.
