Job summary

WSP is seeking a Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer to join our Power & Energy team in Houston, TX, with consideration for Seattle, Boise, Overland Park, Atlanta, Oradell and Mt. Laurel locations.

You will design piping and equipment for power generation facilities, develop specifications and data sheets, review vendor drawings, and coordinate with suppliers and other disciplines on multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 5+ years post-education experience in mechanical design for industrial facilities.
• Engineer in Training certification.
• Proficient in Microstation or AutoCAD.
• Familiar with SmartPlant 3D or CADWorx.
• Experience using Caesar II or AutoPipe.
• Experience using Thermoflow.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems regulations, codes and QA/QC.
• Ability to perform engineering calculations and compare to regulations.
• PM experience on small to mid-size projects.
• Ability to plan inspections and investigations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Self-leadership with multitasking.
• Ability to lead junior team members.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving.
• Direct field subcontractors as needed.
• Commitment to workplace safety.
• Willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical piping and equipment for renewable and fossil power generation facilities.
• Prepare mechanical equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, and vendor evaluations.
• Review vendor drawings and interface with suppliers, clients and other disciplines.
• Ensure effective communications with other engineering disciplines.
• Prepare scopes of work for mechanical systems.
• Develop PFDs and P&IDs.
• Perform piping design: sizing, pressure drop, stress analysis, pipe supports.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on multiple projects.
• Maintain QA/QC and reporting standards.
• Assist with development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
• Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations with findings and recommendations.
• Analyze field data to support action plans for risk and operations.
• Prepare and implement HASPs.
• Ensure regulatory data integrity and documentation.
• Stay current with mechanical engineering practices.
• Adhere to Code of Conduct and policies.
• Perform additional duties as needed.
