Job summary

Hubbell Incorporated is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for the Plating Department to contribute to design, development, and implementation of advanced metal finishing solutions. This role requires leadership, strong technical expertise, and a proven track record on engineering projects.

You will plan, direct, and optimize metal finishing processes, evaluate equipment for safety and regulatory compliance, and drive improvements in process monitoring, layout, and efficiency across multiple projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, General, or Electrical) is required.
  • 6–8 years of progressive engineering experience with design, development, or PM.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and related engineering tools is required.
  • Experience with metal finishing processes and safety/environmental compliance is needed.
  • Strong communication and problem solving, plus ability to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, development, and implementation of metal finishing engineering solutions.
  • Evaluate equipment and processes for safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop monitoring and testing processes to improve capability and control.
  • Plan layout, space, and workflow for efficiency and production goals.

  • Collaborate with management on capabilities, schedules, and production planning.
  • Apply statistical methods to forecast manufacturing needs and capacity.
  • Provide documentation for metal finishing operations including waste treatment.

Mechanical Engineer - Plating Department

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for contributing to the design, development, and implementation of advanced engineering solutions. This role demands extensive technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a proven track record of significant contributions to projects. The Mechanical Engineer will provide guidance, drive innovations, and play a key role in ensuring the successful execution of Hubbell’s complex engineering initiatives. The Mechanical Engineer plans, directs, and coordinates Metal Finishing Engineering processes by performing the followingduties.

  • Assists with Metal Finishing processes and methods to minimize waste and increase the quality of products
  • Evaluate equipment and processes to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations
  • Develop new and enhance monitoring and testing processes to provide increased capability and process control
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards
  • Monitor process equipment to identify potential errors, develop solutions to eliminate abnormalities
  • Ensure engineered solutions focus on reducing downtime, maintenance costs, and maintain or increase production levels while improving output, quality, and safety
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes
  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential
  • Provide support and required documentation for all metal finishing operations including waste treatment equipment and processes
  • Responsible for compliance with local state and federal rules, regulations, and statutes relating to hazardous materials
What will help you thrive in this role?

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (General, Mechanical, or Electrical), or related field (required)

6-8 years of progressive experience in engineering with a strong focus on design, development, or project management (required)

Proficiency in engineering software and tools relevant to the specific field - e.g., CAD software, Simulation tools, etc. (required)

Proven track record of successfully contributing to engineering projects

Strong understanding of engineering principles, theories, and best practices

Experience in Project Management, including planning, prioritization, and successful execution of engineering projects

Capacity to manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring on-time delivery within budget and quality perimeters

Excellent problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and the ability to make informed decisions based on thorough analysis

Strong communication skill, both written and verbal

Understanding of industry regulations, compliance requirements, and best practices related to engineering standards and safety protocols

  • XRF thickness equipment experience
  • HAZMAT and HAZWOPER training Required
  • OSHA, EPA, DOT, NHDES (preferred) direct experience, training, and certification
  • CAD experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software
  • Layouts, equipment positioning, and workflows
  • Work Instruction development, and ISO:9001 internal & external audits
  • Hazardous Waste Operations training required by 29 CFR 265.16, 40 CFR 265.16, 49 CFR 171-172
  • Hazardous Waste Coordinator (training by NHDES will be required)
