Job summary

Lisbon Group is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer for Piping Systems in Houston to lead mechanical piping design, oversee drawings, and ensure compliance with industry standards. Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in mechanical, chemical engineering or related field (required).
  • 8+ years offshore/onshore upstream, midstream, LNG facility experience with engineering contractor (required).
  • Experience with LNG, NGL, and cryogenic/natural gas processing facilities.
  • Proven track record delivering multi-disciplinary projects with mechanical piping accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design engineering for mechanical piping systems.
  • Serve as SME on mechanical piping systems and resolve issues per specs, codes and standards.
  • Ensure facility layouts comply with applicable codes (e.g., DOT 49 CFR 193, NFPA 59a).
  • Deliver orthographic drawings, piping layouts and isometrics; own related drawings and MTOs.
  • Manage internal/external engineering and CAD resources for complex projects.
  • Integrate piping systems into skid packages and BOP/stick-built designs with design group.
  • Communicate progress and schedule to project management.

We are looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer for Piping Systems possessing a strong ability to ensure successful project execution by taking technical engineering accountability for project deliverables. If you have a proven track record in piping system design and are interested in gaining exposure in the energy transition sector (LNG, NGL, decarbonization, H2, ammonia, etc.) then this may be the right opportunity for you. This position is critical to our success and will require a true expert in this space.

This role will report to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and will be a pivotal part of the foundation of our growing team. This position can be based in our Houston office.

What You Will Do
  • Lead mechanical design engineering for mechanical piping systems
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on mechanical piping systems and resolve engineering issues while adhering to application specifications, relevant philosophies, codes and industry standards
  • Take engineering accountability for facility layouts which comply with DOT 49 CFR 193, NFPA 59a and other relevant codes and standards
  • Take engineering accountability for the delivery of orthographic, piping layouts and isometrics. CAD design is completed by the CAD department. The Mechanical Piping System lead will take engineering accountability for these drawing packages and MTOs
  • Manage internal and external engineering and CAD design resources to deliver complex multi‑disciplinary engineering projects
  • Accountable for integration of piping systems into both custom skid packages and BOP / stick‑built designs by working with the design group
  • Work and communicate with the project management team, including providing regular progress and schedule reporting
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, chemical engineering or related (required)
  • 8+ years related offshore and onshore upstream, midstream, or LNG facility experience with an engineering contractor (required)
  • Experience with LNG, NGL, and cryogenic / natural gas processing facilities
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering small to medium size multi‑disciplinary projects where you were directly accountable for identifying and closing technical gaps related to mechanical piping systems to exceed customer expectations
  • We are an engineering and EPC contractor – a career dedicated to engineering contracting and EPC project execution is required to be successful
  • Experience in a process industry setting in mechanical equipment engineering and an expertise in piping system design
  • Must be able to complete piping system design including pipe stress analysis and pipe stress analysis reports for relevant process, utilities and other services
  • Experience developing and owning reports, creating and documenting summary reports and PowerPoint slide decks (required) and leading customer review meetings
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (required)
  • Ability to interact effectively with vendors and clients (approximately 85% of your work involves internal interaction – 15% external)
  • International experience – we execute work across the globe (beneficial)
  • Field experience including construction, commissioning, start‑up and operational support (beneficial)
  • Hexagon Caesar II Pipe Stress experience preferred
