The ideal candidate has a Mechanical PE license, 6–8+ years of experience, proficiency in Revit, and experience with central plants, ductwork, and energy-efficient systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Licensed Mechanical PE (PE) with active status.
  • 6–8+ years in mechanical design and HVAC systems.
  • Proficiency in Revit and MS Office (Excel).
  • Experience with chillers, boilers, ductwork, and central plant design.
  • Knowledge of energy-saving projects and lifecycle cost analysis.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Location: Birmingham, AL; Tempe, AZ; Orlando, FL; Chicago, IL; Charlotte, NC; Dallas, TX; Nashville, TN; Oklahoma City, OK; Philadelphia, PA; St. Louis, MO; Salt Lake City, UT (Relocation Assistance Available)

Work Arrangement: Primarily Onsite (flexibility available)

Travel: Up to 10% (local, reimbursed)

Compensation: $100,000 - $175,000 (depending on PE and experience level).

  • Discretionary yearly bonus and monthly phone allowance ($80/month).
Position Overview

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (PE I-III) to support the design and development of mechanical systems across healthcare, higher education, and MEP infrastructure projects. This role involves hands‑on design, engineering analysis, and project execution, with the opportunity to grow into a leadership/management position.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in HVAC and mechanical systems, proficiency in Revit, and experience designing central plants, ductwork, and related systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical systems including HVAC, chillers, boilers, ductwork, and control systems
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, and blueprints using Revit
  • Analyze, evaluate, and optimize system performance and energy efficiency
  • Support central plant and MEP infrastructure design projects
  • Perform site visits and field assessments as needed
  • Sign and seal engineering documents (as applicable based on licensure)
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, project managers, and clients
  • Support project lifecycle including planning, design, and execution
  • Analyze utility data and perform lifecycle cost analyses
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
Level‑Based Expectations
PE I
  • Holds an active Mechanical Professional Engineer (PE) license and demonstrates sound engineering judgment.
  • Design HVAC and mechanical systems, prepare engineering calculations and construction documents, and sign and seal drawings with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, conduct field assessments, and ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Apply sound engineering principles to solve technical challenges, manage assigned projects effectively, and elevate only highly complex issues when necessary.
PE II (Mid‑Level Professional Engineer)
  • Independently manage design components and project tasks
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
  • Contribute to project planning and client coordination
PE III (Senior‑Level Professional Engineer)
  • Lead complex projects and engineering initiatives
  • Oversee design strategy and execution across multiple projects
  • Mentor teams and support leadership development initiatives
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related field)
  • Mechanical Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 6‑8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design and HVAC systems
  • Proficiency in Revit and Microsoft Office (Excel required)
  • Experience with chillers, boilers, ductwork, and central plant design
  • Knowledge of energy savings projects and lifecycle cost analysis
  • Ability to analyze utility data and system performance
  • Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing healthcare and/or higher education facilities
  • Experience with Central Energy Plant (CEP) infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of medium voltage systems and power distribution
  • Experience with generator systems and backup power design
  • Prior leadership or mentorship experience
