Job description

Position Title(s):

Mechanical Engineer Levels 2-3

Position Description:

Mechanical Engineers of all levels work with other Mechanical Engineers, Project Managers, Controls Engineers, Builders, Technicians and other personnel to conceptualize, design, test and validate automation systems for various types of automation and robotic equipment. You will be involved with developing and fully designing equipment, layouts and subassemblies of automated robotic work cells.

Responsibilities (Levels 2 and 3)
  • Develop 3D models and 2D drawings for robotic EOAT, fixtures, and automation components using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks), ensuring precision and optimal performance.
  • Evaluate designs through stress simulations, motion studies, and safety assessments (e.g., FMEA) to ensure reliability in real-world applications.
  • Work with cross‑functional teams to integrate mechanical systems with electrical and controls frameworks, delivering seamless, high‑performance solutions.
  • Spearhead prototype testing and iterative refinements, transforming concepts into durable, deployable designs.
  • Create clear technical documentation, including specifications, engineering changes ensuring traceability and project alignment.
  • Assist on‑site operations, troubleshoot issues, and provide hands‑on technical support to internal teams.
  • Complete tasks on schedule and within budget, proposing innovative enhancements to improve efficiency and functionality.
  • Champion our Operating Principles: you will be expected to actively embody and uphold our ten Operating Principles, which guide our culture and success.
Additional Responsibilities (Level 3)
  • Lead the creation of equipment layouts, subassemblies, and automation systems using SolidWorks CAD, ensuring precision, innovation, and project alignment.
  • Maintain compliance with Axis standards and customer requirements, applying advanced techniques to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Manage small‑scale projects from concept to completion, managing timelines and team coordination under the Engineering Manager’s guidance.
  • Oversee build, assembly, and testing phases, resolving technical challenges with analytical rigor and hands‑on expertise.
  • Guide junior engineers, offering technical mentorship to boost team skills and project success.
  • Perform risk assessments and design reviews, proactively resolving issues to ensure safe, robust system performance.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Level 2: 1‑4 years in mechanical design or automation, with a track record of tackling real‑world engineering challenges.
  • Level 3: Minimum 4 years in mechanical design and automation engineering.
  • Proven experience developing comprehensive design packages.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Experience with robotics, pneumatics, and automation system design.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel for technical documentation and analysis.
