Job Description

The Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for overseeing the discipline at a project level and managing the project discipline budget on projects of varying sizes and complexities. The Lead Engineer understands the development and field implementation of documents through all project phases, coordinates with internal and external parties, manages multiple tasks, establishes priorities, and directs the work of others. This role may work independently or under the guidance of the Project Manager. The Lead Mechanical Engineer manages workflows and the execution of design and engineering support staff to meet client expectations and project goals.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer has a thorough understanding of all project phases, sizes, and complexities. They coordinate with internal and external parties, manage multiple tasks, and act as the mechanical point-of-contact for clients and other disciplines. Responsibilities include completing complex project code analysis, preparing bid/permit/construction deliverables, and understanding technical and design aspects relevant to CRB’s market areas.

Responsibilities

• Interface with clients and external partners
• Plan and direct work, manage project budgets from a mechanical design perspective on large complex projects
• Collaborate with Project Managers on proposal development, man-hour planning, and project scheduling for intermediate projects
• Conduct and lead field surveys of existing conditions and support field reporting
• Identify and resolve non-compliant existing conditions during site walks and surveys
• Develop internal mechanical design and engineering training presentations
• Develop construction drawing packages and specifications for advanced projects with minimal oversight
• Support construction activities such as RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development, and progress reports
• Perform quality checks on documents and design calculations to ensure project quality
• Mentor Mechanical Engineers I and II and Designers I and II
• Lead system design programming and master planning with support from Senior Engineers
• Lead a team of mechanical staff in executing advanced design and engineering projects

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with Mechanical Option
• Minimum of 10 years of experience, preferably in a design firm setting
• Professional Registration (Licensure)

Additional Qualifications

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and discipline-specific software
• LEED, WELL, or other sustainable design accreditation
• Advanced experience with engineering calculations and system design (HVAC, mechanical utilities, piping)
• Strong knowledge of mechanical/plumbing/fire codes and industry standards
• Experience with field surveys and cross-discipline coordination
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems issues
