Responsibilities

• Take on projects representing the work of full-time engineers, supporting plant reliability and maintenance.
• Analyze equipment and data to identify improvements and drive process optimization.
• Support predictive and preventive maintenance to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
• Participate in root cause analysis and troubleshooting to resolve equipment challenges.
• Review engineering drawings and documentation, including P&IDs, PFDs, isometrics, plot plans, and specs.

Koch Fertilizer is looking for a 2027 Summer Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our Engineering team in Dodge City, Kansas.The internship opportunity will be a 12-week program running from late May to mid-August 2027.

What You Will Do

• Take on projects that are representative of the work our full-time engineers do, gaining hands‑on experience supporting plant reliability, maintenance, and operational excellence.
• Analyze equipment and operational data to identify improvement opportunities, support decision‑making, and drive process optimization initiatives.
• Support predictive and preventive maintenance efforts to improve equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
• Participate in root cause analysis and troubleshooting activities to help resolve equipment and operational challenges.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation, including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), piping isometrics, plot plans, and equipment specifications.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb straight ladders. Some work may require heights in excess of 100 feet.
• Wearing industrial chemical plant uniforms and PPE as required.
• Confined space entry may be required.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Eligible for full-time employment before or by May 2029
