Job summary

Koch Ag & Energy Solutions (KAES) is seeking a Summer Environmental Engineering Intern in Fort Dodge, IA. The 12-week paid internship runs May to August 2027 and offers hands-on experience with environmental compliance, data analysis, and regulatory support.

Work with the EHS team on programs covering CAA, CWA, RCRA, and SPCC, gaining exposure to permits, reporting, and environmental performance within a real facility setting.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related degree program.
• Eligible for full-time employment on or before Summer 2028.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Support environmental compliance programs, review permits, assist with reporting and assessments.
• Analyze environmental data and develop tools to improve reporting and tracking.
• Perform calculations and support regulatory reviews related to air emissions, wastewater, and waste management.
• Participate in inspections, audits, and monitoring activities to verify compliance and performance.
• Assist with investigations and continuous improvement projects to reduce risk and improve systems.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and EHS teams on projects balancing field work with engineering analysis.

Our Team

As an Environmental Engineering Intern with Koch Fertilizer, you'll work alongside our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team to support environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives at our facility. This hands-on role offers an opportunity to gain exposure to environmental regulations, data analysis, and compliance management across multiple programs - including the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC).

What You Will Do

• Support environmental compliance programs and regulatory initiatives by assisting with permit reviews, reporting, documentation, and environmental assessments.
• Analyze environmental data and develop tools that improve reporting, compliance tracking, and decision-making.
• Perform engineering calculations and support regulatory reviews related to air emissions, wastewater, waste management, and other environmental programs.
• Participate in environmental sampling, inspections, audits, and monitoring activities to help verify compliance and environmental performance.
• Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement projects that reduce risk and enhance environmental systems.
• Partner with operations, maintenance, and EHS teams on projects that balance field experience with engineering analysis and problem-solving.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Currently enrolled in a degree program or alternative education program (e.g., 4-year college program, 2-year technical college, certificate program, upskilling program, etc.) in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Eligible for full-time employment on or before Summer 2028.
• Legally authorized to work permanently in the United States without requiring visa transfer or sponsorship.

What Will Put You Ahead

• Prior internship or project experience in environmental compliance, permitting, or data analysis.
• Familiarity with major environmental regulations (Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA).
• Experience using Microsoft Excel or other tools for data tracking and analysis.
