Qualifications

• Experience designing and building multiple mechanical systems outside the classroom.
• Demonstrated project work such as submarines, solar cars, electric boats or airplanes, rockets, etc.
• Strong fundamentals for structural analysis, part sizing, and integration with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Take product and engineering requirements to develop concepts and evaluate tradeoffs for each.
• Use 2D and 3D CAD tools to design parts and assemblies based on sound engineering principles.
• Design, build, and test prototypes to gather quick learnings.
• Review designs with cross-functional Zipline teams and suppliers.
• Design, build, and run electro-mechanical testers to prove reliability of critical components.
• Evaluate designs at material, element, and full product levels.
• Document key decisions to aid future work.
• Highlight examples from intern projects like ducting connections and service strategies.
