Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern in the United States to support our mechanical team with design, drafting, and coordination from concept through construction.

You will gain hands-on experience in engineering analysis, documentation, and project support while learning industry standards and software tools in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Authorization to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Sophomore or Junior standing; GPA 3.0+ preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the mechanical design process, preparing accurate drawings, layouts, and details.
  • Assist in developing HVAC and plumbing designs from concept through construction.
  • Prepare engineering design calculations and assist with technical analysis.
  • Conduct research on new technologies and applicable code requirements.
  • Assist in writing engineering reports and project documentation.
  • Follow EP drafting standards and maintain consistent sheet and background setup.
  • Support preparation of construction documents with high accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate effectively with internal staff and other design professionals.
  • Meet assigned project deadlines (occasional overtime may be required).
  • Use tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.

Description

The Mechanical Engineering Intern supports our mechanical team members by assisting with mechanical systems design, documentation, and construction administration for a variety of projects. This role provides hands‑on experience in engineering analysis, drafting, coordination, and project support from concept through construction.

Interns will gain exposure to real world design applications while developing technical proficiency, communication skills, and an understanding of industry standards.

Design & Engineering Support
  • Participate in the mechanical design process, preparing accurate and thorough drawings, layouts, and details.
  • Assist in developing HVAC and plumbing designs from concept through completion of construction.
  • Prepare engineering design calculations and assist with technical analysis.
  • Conduct research on new technologies and applicable code requirements.
  • Assist in writing engineering reports and project documentation.
Document Production & Coordination
  • Follow EP drafting standards and maintain consistent sheet and background setup.
  • Support preparation of construction documents with a high level of accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate effectively with internal staff and other design professionals.
  • Meet assigned project deadlines (occasional overtime may be required).
