Job summary

Harris is seeking a Mechanical Design Intern for Summer 2027 to apply engineering knowledge in a professional setting. You will assist with envisioning, designing, and delivering mechanical solutions for construction and operation, focusing on efficiency, cost reduction, and customer needs.

You will gain exposure to the full design process, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and learn how your role impacts the business across multiple projects nationwide.

Qualifications

• Must be a current student pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, energy engineering, or related field.
• Basic understanding of low energy, high performance, sustainable design for mechanical systems.
• Strong math, accuracy and detail-orientation skills.
• Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving, and ability to identify problems.

Responsibilities

• Apply engineering concepts to design mechanical/HVAC/Plumbing systems.
• Assist envisioning, designing, and delivering innovative design solutions to meet customer needs and increase efficiency.
• Gain experience in the Mechanical/HVAC/Plumbing design process.
• Translate classroom concepts to real-world projects.

Your role as a Mechanical Design Intern

As a Mechanical Design Intern, you will apply knowledge gained through formal education to a professional work environment including applying conceptual engineering techniques to design various types of mechanical systems. Assist with envisioning, designing, and delivering innovative design solutions that meet customer needs and increase efficiency and cost effectiveness in construction and operation.

• Gain on the job experience and knowledge of the Mechanical/HVAC/Plumbing design process
• Get a realistic job preview and explore other career opportunities within the Design + Engineering team
• Get exposure to other departments and learn how your role impacts the business as a whole
• Translate concepts learned in the classroom to real world experiences

What We're Looking For In You

• Must be a current student working toward degree in mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, energy engineering, or related field.

Pay Range

$22.34 - $33.51
