Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for the Submarine Programs - Acoustics, Shock, and Vibration Development team. You will design acoustics for new submarine projects and ensure existing submarines meet performance specs while conducting lab testing of new acoustic technology and analyzing dynamic signals.

The role requires strong communication and leadership, with potential travel to vendors and shipyards to support testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 2+ years relevant experience or Master's with 1+ year.
• Alternatively, currently an Intermediate Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or RPCO Engineer at the Company.
• Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to work in a teaming environment.

Responsibilities

Job Description

Submarine Programs - Acoustics, Shock, and Vibration Development is looking for a mechanical engineer to join their team! In this position the candidate will work on the acoustic design of new submarine projects, while ensuring that existing submarines continue to meet their performance requirements. The candidate will also conduct laboratory testing of new acoustic technology for future fleet use, including the use of data acquisition systems to acquire and analyze dynamic signals. This position may require some travel to vendors and shipyards to support emergent testing. Candidates should have strong verbal and written communication skills, program management, and leadership skills and be able to work in a teaming environment.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

• Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or
• Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or
• Currently an Intermediate Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in propulsion plant design or operations
• Digital signal processing (MATLAB or similar)
• Finite element analysis (ANSYS or ABAQUS)

Pay Range

$78,700.00 - $120,500.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
