Design It. Engineer It. See It Built.

We're partnering with an established industrial manufacturer seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design custom equipment and fabricated structures used in demanding industrial applications.

This is a hands‑on design engineering role where you'll take projects from initial requirements and engineering concepts through detailed design and fabrication. You'll create 3D models and manufacturing drawings, perform structural and engineering calculations, and work directly with production teams to make sure designs can be built correctly and efficiently.

The right person will enjoy working on real equipment—not just theoretical designs—and will be comfortable solving engineering challenges involving structural loads, lifting, transportation, fabrication, and environmental conditions.

What You'll Own

Mechanical & Structural Design

  • Develop mechanical and structural designs based on customer requirements, project specifications, and engineering criteria.
  • Design structural steel frames, bases, platforms, supports, stairs, enclosures, and other fabricated assemblies.
  • Create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings for custom industrial equipment.
  • Develop fabrication and assembly drawings that clearly communicate requirements to manufacturing.
  • Select appropriate structural members, materials, fasteners, welds, coatings, hardware, and mechanical components.
  • Evaluate equipment mounting, support, and interface requirements.
  • Develop and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and engineering documentation.
Engineering Calculations & Analysis
  • Perform engineering calculations to verify structural integrity and design performance.
  • Evaluate dead loads, live loads, equipment loads, wind loads, lifting loads, transportation loads, and other applicable forces.
  • Analyze equipment support structures and mounting arrangements.
  • Perform thermal-load calculations and assist with HVAC system sizing and component selection.
  • Use engineering and structural analysis tools to validate designs when required.
  • Review designs for accuracy, completeness, safety, and compliance before release to production.
CAD & Engineering Tools
  • Build and maintain detailed 3D CAD models and production drawings.
  • Develop drawings suitable for fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing.
  • Use CAD and engineering software to support mechanical and structural design activities.
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Advance Steel, or comparable 3D mechanical/structural design software is required.
  • Experience with structural analysis software is preferred.
  • Maintain accurate revisions, drawings, models, BOMs, and other engineering records.
Manufacturing & Fabrication Support
  • Work closely with manufacturing and fabrication teams throughout the design process.
  • Apply design-for-manufacturing principles to create practical, buildable designs.
  • Provide technical support when production questions or design issues arise.
  • Resolve drawing discrepancies, fabrication challenges, and other engineering-related problems.
  • Recommend design changes that improve manufacturability, quality, cost, and efficiency.
  • Support welding and fabrication operations with technical guidance when needed.
Project & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Project Management, Purchasing, and Manufacturing throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in design reviews and communicate technical requirements to internal teams.
  • Interpret customer specifications and translate project requirements into workable engineering solutions.
  • Develop and implement engineering revisions when project or production requirements change.
  • Provide technical input to help keep projects aligned with quality, cost, schedule, and manufacturing objectives.
Standards, Codes & Compliance
  • Ensure engineering designs meet applicable customer requirements, industry standards, and project specifications.
  • Apply relevant structural, mechanical, safety, and fabrication standards throughout the design process.
  • Working knowledge may include:
    • International Building Code (IBC)
    • International Mechanical Code (IMC)
    • OSHA requirements
    • AISC standards
    • AWS standards
    • Applicable customer and industry-specific requirements
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Experience in mechanical design, structural design, custom-engineered equipment, or a similar industrial application
  • Experience developing 3D models and detailed fabrication drawings
  • Working knowledge of structural steel design and fabrication methods
  • Understanding of welding and common manufacturing processes
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and evaluate structural loads
  • Ability to read and interpret customer specifications, engineering drawings, and technical documentation
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work effectively with Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management, and other cross-functional teams
Ideal Industry Background
  • Industrial Equipment
  • Custom-Engineered Equipment
  • Heavy Manufacturing
  • Metal Fabrication
  • Structural Steel
  • Engineered-to-Order Manufacturing
  • Equipment Enclosures
  • Skids & Frames
  • Platforms & Support Structures
  • Industrial HVAC Systems
  • Fabricated Equipment
Additional Experience That Stands Out
  • Structural analysis and engineering software
  • Design of fabricated steel structures or industrial equipment
  • HVAC sizing and thermal-load calculations
  • Welding and fabrication operations
  • Design-for-manufacturing principles
  • Experience designing skids, frames, platforms, enclosures, or equipment supports
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
You’ll Excel Here If You...
  • Like seeing your designs move from a computer screen onto the manufacturing floor.
  • Understand that a good design has to be both structurally sound and practical to fabricate.
  • Enjoy solving real-world engineering problems rather than working exclusively from established templates.
  • Can communicate effectively with engineers, project teams, and manufacturing personnel.
  • Pay attention to the details while still understanding the bigger project picture.
  • Are comfortable taking ownership of designs and making decisions when challenges arise.
  • Enjoy working on custom industrial equipment where every project can bring a different engineering challenge.
Work Environment

This position is based in an industrial manufacturing environment with regular interaction between engineering and production teams. The role combines engineering and design work with exposure to an active manufacturing facility, including fabrication, welding, machining, and other industrial operations.

PPE is required when entering designated production areas. The environment may include typical manufacturing conditions such as noise, dust, machinery, metal fabrication activities, and varying temperatures.
