Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for Rockford, IL, to design, develop, and implement industrial equipment and safety systems. The role emphasizes fuel train assemblies, risk assessment, and collaboration with electrical, controls, and manufacturing teams.

Requirements include a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, 3+ years of related design experience, and proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks/Inventor/AutoCAD).

Qualifications

• BSME degree required (BSME highly preferred).
• 3+ years of design and development experience with industrial equipment.
• Understanding of machine safeguarding principles and risk assessment methodologies.
• Experience interpreting OSHA, ANSI, and other relevant engineering and safety standards.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or AutoCAD.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
• Knowledge of PLCs would be a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical systems, assemblies, weldments, and components for industrial machinery and combustion applications.
• Develop and review fuel train systems, including valves, regulators, pressure switches, piping layouts, and control components.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable standards and regulations, including OSHA, ANSI, and applicable local codes.
• Perform machine risk assessments and incorporate safeguarding solutions into equipment designs.
• Create detailed engineering drawings, schematics, BOMs, routings P&IDs, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with electrical, controls, manufacturing, and field service teams to develop integrated solutions.
• Evaluate existing equipment designs and recommend improvements related to safety, reliability, maintainability, and performance.
• Support troubleshooting efforts for installed systems, including fuel delivery components and mechanical assemblies.
• Participate in safety reviews, design reviews, hazard analyses, and customer project meetings.
