Job summary

Gresham Smith in Nashville, TN is seeking a Mechanical Engineer-in-Training to join our Building Engineering Market. You will assist in preparing reports, plans, and specifications for mechanical systems on building projects, and support design calculations and equipment sizing.

• Minimum of 2 years in engineering design of mechanical and/or plumbing and fire protection systems for building projects.
• E.I.T license or recent P.E license is required.
• Knowledge of engineering and architectural principles, practices, and techniques.
• Beginning knowledge of codes and regulations.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to travel to job sites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist in prepare mechanical engineering reports, plans, and specifications for building projects. Design and produce engineering documents and specifications based on calculations.
• Plan, schedule, conduct, and/or coordinate engineering work.
• Assist in research.
• Assist in selecting and sizing equipment for building systems.
• Participate in contract bidding and administration. Observe the ongoing progress of a project.
• Assist in the coordination of projects with clients, contractors, outside consultants, and firm staff. Communicate and interact with project team members, client representatives, review agencies, and others as appropriate to the project.
• Assist in resolving a variety of complex problems (e.g., conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements).
