Job summary

Applied Materials is seeking a Mechanical Engineer at the New College Grad level in Santa Clara, CA. The position supports design, analysis and tooling for mechanical systems throughout the product life cycle, with a focus on physics-based problem solving and precision assemblies.

As part of the Semiconductor Product Group, you’ll contribute to innovative equipment solutions, participate in training cohorts starting July 2027, and relocate as needed within the company.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
  • Familiarity with the basic theories and concepts of mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in semiconductor fab or equipment industry.
  • Strong foundation in physics, mathematics, and materials science.

Responsibilities

  • Design or modify basic mechanical engineering layouts, schematics, or drawings/specifications under direct supervision
  • Coordinate the procurement and assembly of mechanical components and equipment for design projects; identify sources of critical parts and subsystems to resolve basic technical issues
  • Perform and document engineering test reports; generate alpha/gamma documentation for product releases
  • Perform engineering analysis; troubleshoot a variety of mechanical problems of general difficulty under direct supervision
  • Apply engineering processes to resolve basic mechanical problems
  • Help to design, develop, and implement custom mechanical tooling, fixturing and associated processes
  • Enable the handling, assembly and/or disassembly of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies throughout the product life cycle, as needed
