Qualifications

  • 5-6+ years of mechanical engineering experience in product development, sustainment, manufacturing, or power electronics.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools; familiar with SPICE and MATLAB.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Hands-on lab experience and ability to communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Design and sustain mechanical aspects of products related to power and control systems for renewable, hybrid, and ruggedized applications.
  • Create 3D models, documentation updates, technical manuals, customer-facing documentation, and system-level mechanical designs.

About the Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Electrical Engineer III to support the ongoing update, design, and development of hybrid power and energy systems. This role focuses on sustaining and updating defined mechanical and electrical components and systems. The role will contribute computer-based and hands-on work across the product lifecycle, including validation, documentation, and production support.

This is a practical, execution-focused engineering role within a manufacturing environment. It requires lab presence, attention to detail, and accountability for design quality and follow-through. This is not an entry-level or purely theoretical position.

What You’ll Be Doing
Mechanical Design & Development
  • Design and sustain the mechanical aspects of products related to power and control systems for renewable, hybrid, and ruggedized applications
  • Create 3D models, documentation updates, technical manuals, customer-facing documentation, and system-level mechanical designs.
  • Balance performance, safety, environmental, and compliance considerations
  • Work on mechanical subassemblies within larger systems
Sustainment & Validation
  • Focus on work related to documentation updates, redline feedback, and changes for production in all mechanical aspects of the project
  • Process Engineering Change Orders
  • Troubleshoot issues and implement design improvements
  • Support field testing and incorporate feedback into design revisions
Documentation & Release
  • Produce accurate technical documentation including schematics, BOMs, layouts, and test reports
  • Ensure designs are manufacturable, serviceable, and properly released to production
  • Maintain clear design history and change documentation
Collaboration & Improvement
  • Work closely with electrical engineers, production team members, supply chain processes, and quality teams
  • Participate in design reviews and peer feedback
  • Support Engineering teammates through collaboration and shared problem-solving
  • Identify opportunities to improve cost, reliability, and manufacturability
Additional Responsibilities
  • Support compliance with applicable standards and certifications
  • Provide internal and customer technical support as needed
  • Provide feedback and updates to the Technical Manual, Engineering Processes, and ISO 9001 process details.
  • Handle product Variances, Production Documentation, Redline processes, and ECO processes.
  • Take on additional duties to support departmental and organizational goals

Flex & Fill:Step in where needed to support engineering execution and maintain momentum.

Occasional travel up to 10% for field support or collaboration may be required as assigned to fulfill job responsibilities.

Scope of Authority

Scope will be limited to ongoing and incoming mechanical engineering work, as well as the standards and process improvements needed for future growth and accountability

  • Support the Engineering Process Lead to report out how engineering work is tracked, communicated, and coordinated
  • Help maintain visibility into project status, risks, and timelines
  • Drive engineering process consistency
  • Support teammates in following established processes and expectations

  • Engineering Changes, Redlines, and Sustainment issues are resolved quickly, correctly, and with the planning and feedback from Project Leads
  • Daily/Weekly project meetings are organized and provide clear visibility for Project Leads
  • Project timelines are tracked and communicated effectively to Project Leads
  • Engineering and production coordination runs smoothly
  • Leadership has reliable insight into project status
  • Engineering spaces remain organized and functional

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an ABET-accredited institution
Experience
  • 5-6+ years of experience in mechanical engineering within product development, sustainment, manufacturing, or power electronics environments
Required Skills
  • Strong organizational and tracking capabilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities at the same time
  • Ability to identify and elevate risks or gaps
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools
  • Familiarity with simulation tools (SPICE, MATLAB, or similar)
  • Experience with mechanical design, prototyping, and testing
  • Ability to translate requirements into manufacturable designs
  • Experience developing and executing test plans
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment and basic hand tools
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-directed with a collaborative mindset

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with solar, hybrid power, or ruggedized systems
  • Familiarity with UL, NEC, IEC, ANSI, and military standards
  • Knowledge of thermal management
  • Experience with embedded systems or hardware/firmware integration

  • Familiarity with time/project logging tools
  • Experience working with production or manufacturing teams
Physical Requirements
  • Extended periods of desk and computer work
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds independently
  • Ability to work collaboratively to move heavier items when needed
  • Comfort working in lab and manufacturing environments
