Summary

A highly experienced Electronics Packaging / Mechanical Engineer with at least 10 years of hands-on experience. In this role, you will develop advanced military-grade single board computers, plug-in module power supplies, and embedded systems.

Requirements

Leadership:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to develop new products.
  • Review project progress with management to ensure design goals and timelines are met.
  • Train and mentor junior engineers, fostering their growth.

Mechanical Design

  • Design packaging for electronic components for rugged environments including laboratory, terrestrial, and aerospace applications.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering to create product variations.
  • Ensure designs survive in rugged environments.
  • Provide mechanical packaging concepts and feasibility studies.
  • Design thermal management solutions.
  • Create detailed fabrication drawings.
  • Perform tolerance studies to ensure performance under worst-case conditions.

Mechanical Analysis

  • Perform structural and fatigue analysis at PCB and system levels.
  • Perform thermal analysis for conduction and convection cooled products.

Prototype and Testing

  • Lead the mechanical design process from concept to prototype, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop product test plans for informal and formal testing.

Manufacturing Support

  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFMA).
  • Strong drafting skills, experience with assembly tooling and fixture design.
  • Support handoff of designs to production.

Qualifications and Education

  • Knowledge of packaging electrical components for rugged environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME).
  • At least 10 years of experience in engineering and manufacturing.
  • Proven experience solving packaging challenges for demanding environments.
  • CAD proficiency in Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks, with knowledge of GD&T standards.
  • Knowledge of materials strength, vibration, fatigue, and experience with FEA software like ANSYS Mechanical.
  • Understanding of heat transfer principles and thermal analysis software like Autodesk CFD.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Expertise in complex machined part design.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal design and brazing.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, VITA standards.
  • Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
