Job summary

Form Energy is hiring a Mechanical Engineer II, R&D to join our Core Technology Hardware team. You will own the design of hardware to evaluate iron‑air battery concepts, from concept through CAD, fabrication, and assembly, delivering working hardware for scientists and engineers.

You’ll design test vehicles, prototype devices, and collaborate with technologists to ensure safe, reliable builds while maintaining documentation and communication across projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 2–5 years of mechanical design experience.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD and 2D drafting (SolidWorks or equivalent).
• Hands-on prototyping with machining, 3D printing, or sheet metal.

Responsibilities

• Design standard and custom test vehicles for battery hardware evaluation.
• Drive projects from concept through build with clear status and risk communication.
• Fabricate prototypes and iteratively improve based on test feedback.
• Collaborate with technicians to streamline builds and ensure repeatability.
