Job summary

Raytheon in Portsmouth, RI is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II on-site to join the Hardware Engineering Organization. You will design, develop, and document components, sub-assemblies and end items for defense systems, and support production through builds, testing and transition to production.

You will collaborate with structural, thermal, and electrical teams, participate in peer design reviews and trade studies, and may travel CONUS to support customers and suppliers as needed.

Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
• Experience selecting materials for structural, thermal, mechanical, electrical, producibility and environmental considerations including corrosion mitigation.
• Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5), tolerance analysis, metal fabrication (machining, sheet metal), and assembly joining techniques (fasteners, rivets, inserts).
• Experience with CAD modeling and Engineering Documentation practices.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment.
• Solve challenging technical issues and drive results through efficient completion of design and support tasks.
• Develop mechanical designs from concept to data package generation and production support.
• Collaborate across disciplines (structural/thermal/electrical) to solve complex challenges.
• Participate in design peer reviews and conduct trade studies to inform decisions.
• Occasional CONUS travel to customer sites or suppliers as needed.
