Job description

Position Overview

Mechanical Engineer – Burnsville, MN. Onsite role with RTX (Collins Aerospace). The Engineer will develop and support product designs, create and maintain engineering documentation, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve production and testing challenges.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include mechanical design, prototyping, analysis, design verification, and supporting the transition of products from development to production. This position will have a strong focus on electromechanical assemblies, cable harness design, and enclosure design.

What You Will Do
  • Develop designs, create and modify documentation, and provide production support for the Burnsville, MN facility.
  • Contribute to the success of a cross-functional team to develop solutions to production challenges, including initial design of new solutions and redesigns of existing ones.
  • Develop and review product designs and analyze development and design requirements, with an emphasis on electromechanical assemblies, cable harness design, and enclosure design.
  • Design test stations, fixtures, cables, interconnects, and associated documentation.
  • Perform tolerance analyses and ensure designs meet mechanical and functional requirements.
  • Prepare and present project/technical information to peers, internal management, and customers.
  • Plan and manage tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Facilitate the documentation and drawings of mechanical designs from initial concept through release.
  • Address considerations for thermal, vibration, and other environmental constraints during the design and verification process.
  • Support prototype builds and transition products to production, ensuring manufacturability and efficiency.

Qualifications You Must Have

Qualifications We Prefer
  • Demonstrated practical experience with mechanical engineering design and an understanding of common fabrication practices (subtractive and additive).
  • Experience with electromechanical assembly design including enclosure design, cable harnesses, and general electronic packaging.
  • Ability to translate requirements into physical designs, particularly for applications involving electromechanical assemblies, cable harnesses, and enclosures.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams, including mechanical engineers, mechanical drafters, electrical engineers, software engineers, and system engineers.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented and excel in a collaborative, team-based environment.
  • Familiarity with Collins Aerospace or Avionics products.
  • Experience with mechanical test equipment design.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to effectively communicate design choices and technical concepts.
