Mechanical Engineer II

Q Microwave, a leader in precision RF manufacturing and design of cutting-edge military and defense microwave solutions, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to join our entrepreneurial, collaborative, and fast-paced team in El Cajon, CA. We are recognized for advanced RF filtering and custom RF subassemblies—technologies requiring deep technical knowledge and passion for precision. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the mechanical design and integration of RF components, including packaging RF boards and components into durable, manufacturable housings. You will work with electrical, RF, manufacturing, and assembly teams from concept to production.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical enclosures for RF filters and subassemblies.
  • Integrate CCA, connectors, and RF board layouts into precision-machined housings meeting environmental requirements.
  • Collaborate with RF and electrical teams to align PCB and mechanical designs.
  • Use CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for modeling, drawings, and tolerance analysis.
  • Perform thermal and structural analyses for robustness in defense and aerospace environments.
  • Support manufacturing transition, including documentation, tooling, and design-for-manufacturability.
  • Assist in prototypes, design reviews, testing, and root-cause analysis.
  • Work with manufacturing and supply chain teams on material selection and process optimization.
  • Maintain manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and change documentation per standards.
  • Work independently, resolve issues proactively, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet production goals.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related field
  • 3-5 years in product development, mechanical design, or manufacturing of RF/electronic products
  • Experience with mechanical integration of PCBs, RF structures, and electrical components
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and email platforms
  • Proficiency in CAD tools like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar
  • Eligibility to access controlled US export technology and materials

Preferred:

  • 8-10+ years of experience
  • Master’s Degree in a Technical Field
  • Active security clearance or ability to obtain one
  • Familiarity with high-frequency RF design constraints (grounding, shielding, thermal management)
  • Experience with component selection for high-reliability aerospace/defense applications

Excellent technical communication and organizational skills are required.
