Summary:
This role seeks to research, plan, design and develop mechanical and electro-mechanical products and systems, applying knowledge of engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
Principal Accountabilities
- Designs products or systems such as robots, machines, instruments, controls, mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, pneumatic or heat transfer systems.
- Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposals, specifications and manuals to determine feasibility and cost of design or application.
- Analyzes product or application and performs design calculations based on engineering principles.
- Assists in defining market needs and developing product specifications.
- Applies engineering principles and known manufacturing processes to achieve overall product and system cost targets; establishes and monitors development schedules and project costs.
- Applies concurrent engineering principles to design and development process. Develops test plans and coordinates test activities during development phase.
- Engage with engineering disciplines, including electrical, software, test, drafting and technical publications.
- May coordinate activities involved in the procurement, fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electro-mechanical products and systems.
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing, in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, development of methods, procedures, tools and gauges for set-up and testing of products and systems.
- May support fabrication and installation activities to ensure that products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
- Assists technical publications in the development of customer documentation.
- May evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate malfunctions.
- May assist customers in developing process parameters for new technologies in product applications.
- Evaluates products on manufacturing floor for system related problems and recommends corrective action.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline. MSME Preferred.
- 2+ years of mechanical design experience focused on automation and machine design.
- Analytical skills focused on mechanics, dynamics, vibration, materials, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Setting up and testing mechanical systems (static, dynamic, and thermal).
- High accuracy positioning systems exposure is preferred.
- Manufacturing processes (precision machining, castings, sheet metal, molding, welding, brazing, etc).
- PTC CREO experience or equivalent.
- Instrumentation: LabView, load cells, displacement transducers
Responsibility for Quality Procedures or Direct Product Quality:
- Adheres to Universal Quality System policies and procedures and uses Total Cycle Time principles and standard problem-solving tools to continuously improve work processes.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to use a computer on a frequent basis.
- Ability to understand and interpret detailed documents and drawings.
- Must be able to communicate clearly with fellow colleagues and in giving presentations.
- The ability to travel to customer sites or technical conferences may occasionally be required.
