Job summary

PAE is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to join our team in Boston within a hybrid office environment. In this role, you will be responsible for mechanical system layouts for HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection, directly under the guidance of a Lead Engineer.

You will perform complex load calculations, select appropriate equipment, and ensure all project deliverables meet our high-quality standards. Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering along with 1-2 years of mechanical engineering experience.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of mechanical engineering experience or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of project phases and engineering concepts.
  • Strong analytical and delegation skills.

Job description

The Opportunity

PAE is seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Mechanical Engineer II to join our team in a hybrid office environment in Boston. In this role, you will bridge the gap between foundational design and project leadership, taking ownership of mechanical system layouts for HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection. Working under the direction of a Lead Engineer, you will apply your technical expertise to perform complex load calculations, select equipment, and ensure all project deliverables meet our high standards for quality and precision.

What You'll Do
  • Perform Revit/AutoCAD system engineering.
  • Design and plan mechanical system layouts under the direction of a lead engineer.
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of mechanical distribution, HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Energy Modeling.
  • Prepare project deliverables with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Read plans and specifications, and develop the skills to edit/write specifications.
  • Understand and collaborate across other disciplines.
  • Apply building codes, industry standards, and mechanical engineering design principles.
  • Perform engineering calculations and equipment selection based on load requirements.
  • Interact with clients and other project team members.
  • Support the project lead in developing opinions of probable construction costs.
  • Contribute to site visits and prepare reports.
  • Implement the project quality management plan (QMP).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 1‑2 years of Mechanical Engineering experience or equivalent.
  • Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) preferred.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, engineering concepts, and effective communication.
  • Knowledge of all project phases.
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
  • Delegation and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Revit/AutoCAD.

  • Hiring Base Salary Range: $86,400‑$105,500 annual.
