Job summary

Axcelis Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to design mechanical components and subsystems for advanced semiconductor equipment.

You will create 3D CAD models and drawings, translate requirements into robust designs, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure reliability and manufacturability. The role emphasizes hands-on design, testing, and analysis under guidance from senior engineers, with opportunities to grow expertise in electromechanical systems and process

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• 0-3 years of mechanical engineering experience, including internships or co-op.
• Experience with 3D CAD software (Creo preferred, or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical components, assemblies, and supporting hardware for semiconductor equipment.
• Create and maintain 3D CAD models, drawings, and engineering documentation.
• Assist in translating system and product requirements into mechanical design solutions.
• Perform basic engineering analyses, including tolerance stack-ups, thermal, and structural, with guidance from senior engineers.
• Support prototype builds, testing, and design verification activities.
• Collect, analyze, and document test data to evaluate design performance and identify improvement opportunities.
• Participate in troubleshooting activities and root cause investigations for design and system-level issues.
• Collaborate with electrical, controls, manufacturing, sourcing, and service teams to support product development efforts.
• Assist with engineering change notices, design reviews, and product release activities.
• Ensure designs meet quality, safety, manufacturability, and reliability requirements.
• Communicate technical information clearly through reports, presentations, and team discussions.
