Job summary

RTX in El Segundo, CA seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer I to support design, integration and test across space programs. You will perform opto-mechanical component design using Creo and assist with lab assembly, integration and test activities alongside a team of engineers.

You will create and revise opto-mechanical drawings, generate assembly instructions and contribute to design for producibility and manufacturability for EO/IR space hardware. A B.S.

Qualifications

What You Will Do

The Mechanical Design Engineer I will support design, integration and test across multiple space programs in El Segundo, CA. The selected candidate will perform mechanical component design on opto-mechanical systems using Creo, and support assembly, integration and test activities in a lab environment. The candidate is expected to work with a team of specialized junior and senior manufacturing and mechanical engineers to support the design, build and test of EO/IR space hardware. Responsibilities include creating and/or revising opto-mechanical designs/drawings, generating assembly instructions and providing build support in conjunction with technicians and other engineering disciplines, as well as design for producibility and manufacturability. Key Responsibilities

• Application of engineering principles to aid in design and development.
• Perform in depth research and analyzing mechanical assemblies
• Generate detailed design drawings incorporating GD&T to ensure the requirements are maintained.
• Work with a cross-functional engineering and analysis team involving material selection, thermal management, precision mechanical mounting and motion, and structural optimization while balancing schedule constraints.
• Utilize change management and process engineering changes in a product data management tool. This will include creation, rework and changes to the design as the changes occur. Contacts are primarily with the immediate section manager, team lead, project leaders and other personnel (peers) within the applicable program.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field (STEM) obtained by start date
• Experience with CAD software or CREO
• Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects

Qualifications we Prefer

• Experience in the design and/or build of space hardware
• Experience in GD&T and Tolerance analysis for designs/drawings
• Experience in CAD design using Creo
• Experience leading a design or build team on a project
• Knowledge of DFMA principles and modern machining techniques
• Prior experience in Defense or Aerospace
• Understanding of Change Management, and processing Engineering Changes in a Product Data Management Tool

The salary range for this role is 62,900 USD - 119,700 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
