Job summary

Affiliated Engineers, Inc. (AEI) in Detroit is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to join a team delivering energy-efficient building systems and environments that advance healthcare, science, and technology projects.

You will start under mentorship, performing load calculations, sizing, layout work, and field surveys, with opportunities to grow into leading project teams, writing specifications, and engaging in client meetings for construction-phase support.

Qualifications

• BSME/BSAE from ABET-accredited school in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering, with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
• Non-academic internship and leadership involvement in activities preferred.
• EIT certification (FE) a plus; internship in MEP consulting engineering field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform load calculations, determine system sizing and layouts, and select equipment.
• Complete field surveys and review equipment shop drawings.
• Lead mechanical project teams and write specifications as you gain experience.
• Participate in project meetings with clients and other consultants; support construction-phase work.
