Job summary

Applied Research Laboratories at UT Austin is seeking a Naval Special Warfare Mechanical Engineering Scientist Associate to develop mechanical components for high-frequency sonar systems at ARL:UT.

You will assemble, test, and validate hardware, design packaging, and support tooling and documentation. The role requires a BS in Mechanical Engineering, SolidWorks expertise, and ability to work with vendors and in a fast-changing environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Familiarity with mechanical design from concept to manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience with SolidWorks CAD tools.
  • Experience interfacing with vendors and machine shops to procure components.
  • Experience and training with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects with changing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, test, and validate hardware at component and system levels.
  • Design mechanical packaging for high-frequency sonar applications.
  • Develop structural mechanical components for electronics packaging.
  • Create transducer and sonar assembly tooling.
  • Maintain design documentation and production drawings.
