Job summary

Accura Engineering & Consulting Services, Inc is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for Fort Benning, based in Charleston, SC. You will review quality procedures, participate in inspections, and evaluate contractor submittals and schedules to ensure conformance with contract documents.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering with 4+ years of construction inspection experience, or an equivalent high school pathway with extensive field experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 4+ years of construction experience.
  • OR high school diploma with 10+ years of construction project inspection experience on large, complex projects.
  • Experience with construction inspection, contract administration, and/or office engineering support.
  • Experience with mechanical/HVAC/plumbing systems and mechanical construction inspection.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • US Army Corps of Engineers or other federal project experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Review contractors' quality management and control procedures on large military installations and report findings.
  • Attend and participate in the 3-Phase Inspection process.
  • Observe and investigate construction to identify major problems and report findings.
  • Review submittals and provide recommendations concerning acceptability.
  • Review and provide written comments on contractor submittals per contract clauses.
  • Evaluate contractor questions and RFIs/RFCs and recommend solutions.
  • Review construction schedules and report findings to the Contracting Officer's Representative.
  • Provide recommendations on acceptability of draft construction progress reports and payments.
  • Review and provide written comments on accuracy of contractor payment estimates.
  • Compute contract time extensions and suggest extensions.
  • Assist in preparing change orders and claims documentation.
  • Provide RMS review and analysis of change requests.
  • Draft letters to contractor explaining deficiencies.
  • Interpret drawings and specifications and make engineering determinations.
  • Review contractor records of work and material usage.
  • Maintain liaison with the DPW for the Resident Office.
  • Attend weekly meetings to clarify construction features.
  • Notify CO of modifications, change orders, and time extensions.
