Job summary

Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a Mechanical Engineer - Dynamics - FEM to perform advanced structural dynamic analyses for missile and spacecraft hardware in California. The role focuses on developing and maintaining FE models, conducting loads and test activities, and supporting cross-functional teams in design optimization.

You will mentor juniors, prepare test plans, and contribute to peer reviews while operating in a fast-paced defense environment with strict security requirements.

Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of structures and structural dynamics
  • Proficiency in finite element analysis principles
  • Experience with NX/NASTRAN finite element modeling or equivalent
  • Knowledge of missile or spacecraft structural dynamic methods
  • US Citizen with active Secret Clearance; ability to obtain Top Secret Clearance
  • Masters degree preferred in related field

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural dynamic analyses for missile and spacecraft flight hardware
  • Produce and maintain FE models simulating loading, deployment motions, and separation events
  • Perform loads development, shock and vibration environments, and testing
  • Prepare test plans, execute static, separation dynamics, vibration, modal and shock tests, and write reports
  • Collaborate on multidisciplinary design trades and performance assessments
  • Support dynamic test definitions, data reduction, and comparisons to analysis
  • Provide data package documentation and present analysis results to engineers and customers
  • Mentor junior engineers and cross-train other disciplines
  • Ensure compliance with program requirements, budgets, and schedules

In this role, you will:

  • Perform structural dynamic analyses for missile and spacecraft flight hardware
  • Produce and maintain models generated from both in-house and commercially available software codes, that simulate mechanical loading conditions, mechanism deployment motions, and the response behavior of missile segment and spacecraft separation events.
  • Perform loads development (primary structure and component level), shock and vibration environments determination and component and system level testing and data evaluation.
  • Prepare test plans; static, separation dynamics, vibration, modal and shock test execution, and post-test reports. You will be an important part of our product development team, where effective communication is critical.
  • Have the ability to work on a multi-disciplined team performing structural design trades, preliminary and detailed design/analysis activity and performance and maintenance assessments of operational systems.
  • Support dynamic test definitions, requirements development, test monitoring, data reduction, and comparison to analysis efforts.
  • Provide user documentation and recommendations to data packages to support peer and customer reviews, present analysis data to engineering teams, customer technical representatives, and Program Office personnel at technical interchange meetings and design reviews
  • Mentor junior engineers and cross train other engineering fields.
  • Provide review, interpretation, flow down, and implementation of program requirements, and plan tasks and review budget and schedule to reduce cost and cycle time.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Solid understanding of structures and structural dynamics either through education OR work experience
  • Proficiency in application of finite element analysis principles
  • Experience with NX/NASTRAN finite element modeling OR equivalent
  • Knowledge of and applicable experience with missile OR spacecraft structural dynamic methods
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active Secret Clearance; ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance
Desired Skills:
  • A Masters degree is strongly preferred for this position
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and highly integrated team environment
  • Ability and desire to assume ownership of tasks and drive to closure quickly and efficiently
  • Experience evaluating designs using rigid body or flexible body analysis methods and tools

  • Creativity/innovation to tackle issues related to anomalous performance of any aspect of a mechanical system

Ability to Work Remotely:

Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedules:

Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position:

9x80 every other Friday off

Pay Rate:

The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $85,500 - $150,765. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidates work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as spanet and business considerations when extending an offer. Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays. (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year. This position is incentive plan eligible.

Pay Rate:
