Job Details

Experience Level: Experienced Professional | Business Unit: SPACE | Career Area: Mechanical Engineering | Type: Full‑Time | Shift: First | Location: Sunnyvale, CA | Relocation Available: Possible

Responsibilities
  • Develop a detailed finite element model for the new D5LE2 missile design.
  • Perform structural dynamic analyses for missile and spacecraft flight hardware.
  • Produce and maintain models generated from both in‑house and commercially available software, simulating mechanical loading conditions, mechanism deployment motions, and the response behavior of missile segments and spacecraft separation events.
  • Develop loads (primary structure and component level), determine shock and vibration environments, and conduct component and system‑level testing and data evaluation.
  • Prepare test plans for static, separation dynamics, vibration, modal, and shock tests, and write post‑test reports.
  • Collaborate effectively with a multi‑disciplined team performing structural design trades, preliminary and detailed design/analysis activities, and performance and maintenance assessments of operational systems.
  • Support dynamic test definitions, requirements development, test monitoring, data reduction, and comparison to analyses.
  • Provide user documentation and recommendations for data packages to support peer and customer reviews; present analysis data to engineering teams, customer technical representatives, and Program Office personnel at technical interchange meetings and design reviews.
  • Mentor junior engineers and cross‑train other engineering fields.
  • Review, interpret, flow down, and implement program requirements; plan tasks and review budget and schedule to reduce cost and cycle time.
Basic Qualifications
  • Solid understanding of structures and structural dynamics either through education or work experience.
  • Proficiency in finite element analysis principles, including rigid and flexible body lumped‑parameter models.
  • Experience with NX/NASTRAN finite element modeling or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of missile or spacecraft structural dynamic methods.
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active Secret Clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
Desired Skills
  • Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and highly integrated team environment.
  • Ownership of tasks and drive to closure quickly and efficiently.
  • Experience evaluating designs using rigid or flexible body analysis methods and tools.
  • Experience with mechanisms, antenna, electronic component, ground support, hoisting, and test support equipment, and composite materials analysis.
  • Proficiency with NX/NASTRAN, Abaqus, LS‑Dyna, MATLAB, Mathcad, and CREO.
  • Experience with static, vibration, acoustic, modal, and shock testing of aerospace flight hardware.
  • Creativity/innovation to tackle issues related to anomalous performance of any aspect of a mechanical system.
  • Top Secret DOD Clearance.
Security Clearance

This position requires a government security clearance. You must be a USCitizen for consideration and maintain a Top Secret clearance. Top Secret DOD Clearance
