Barge Design Solutions, an employee-owned engineering and architecture firm, seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join its Mission-Critical team in Nashville. You will design energy-efficient HVAC and mechanical systems for data centers, ensuring reliability and uptime through rigorous criteria and code-compliant solutions.

You will lead design segments, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver project success for mission-critical facilities nationwide.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Professional Engineering license (PE).
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering with emphasis on data centers or mission-critical facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment, design codes, and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with project team members, client representatives, and review agencies to provide a comprehensive project design.
  • Develops design criteria for air and water side of building mechanical systems.
  • Calculates heating, cooling, and ventilation loads.
  • Utilizes industry standards and best practices to optimize mission-critical system performance.
  • Leads technical mechanical design portions of a project in a multi-discipline environment.
  • Develops concepts, studies, and narratives to help clients understand options to meet project requirements.
  • Selects equipment and designs code-compliant mechanical systems to achieve uptime and reliability objectives.
  • Oversees installation of systems to ensure functionality and alignment with design intent.
  • Participates in project site visits.
  • Mentors, directs, and oversees work of junior staff and designers.
  • Participates in strategy, growth, and development of mission-critical sector.

What We're Looking For:

Barge Design Solutions is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer (Data Centers) to join our growing Mission-Critical team, supporting the design and delivery of complex data center facilities. This role will focus on developing innovative, energy-efficient mechanical, HVAC, and utility systems that ensure reliability, performance, and operational continuity. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, a collaborative approach to multidisciplinary design, and a passion for advancing mission-critical infrastructure while contributing to the continued growth of Barge’s Data Center practice.

Education & Experience Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment, design codes, and standards.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively with a wide range of audiences.
  • Experience with Revit a plus.
  • Familiarity with sustainable design practices and energy-efficient systems a plus
