Job summary

TRS Staffing Solutions is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of mechanical and plumbing systems for large-scale, mission-critical data center campuses. You will establish standards and design frameworks enabling scalable, efficient project delivery across a growing portfolio.

Collaborating with cross-functional teams, consultants, and operations stakeholders, you will drive technical excellence, standardization, and continuous improvement through the project

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 6–10 years of mechanical engineering design and project delivery experience.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and plumbing systems in complex facilities.
• Experience leading technical initiatives and setting engineering standards.
• Familiarity with building codes, standards, and BIM-enabled design.

Staff Mechanical Engineer - Data Center Infrastructure

About the Role

We are seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Data Center team.

In this role, you will lead the design and development of mechanical and plumbing systems for large-scale, mission-critical data center campuses. You will play a key role in establishing and evolving engineering standards, specifications, and design frameworks that enable scalable, efficient, and cost-effective project delivery across a growing portfolio.

Working closely with cross-functional teams, consultants, contractors, and operations stakeholders, you will help drive technical excellence, innovation, standardization, and continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive innovation and standardization efforts by evaluating new technologies, materials, and vendor solutions to improve performance, reduce costs, and enhance scalability.
• Lead the technical review and approval of equipment submittals, ensuring alignment with established standards and coordination across engineering disciplines.
• Partner with regional design and execution teams to capture lessons learned, evaluate deviations from Owner's Project Requirements (OPR), and incorporate improvements into future designs.
• Develop and standardize mechanical and plumbing system Sequences of Operation (SOOs) in collaboration with controls and automation teams.
• Lead value engineering initiatives by balancing cost, constructability, reliability, and long-term operational performance.
• Create and implement tools, templates, standards, and processes that improve engineering consistency, efficiency, and quality across projects.
• Establish and standardize commissioning requirements and documentation to support successful system startup, testing, and turnover.
• Collaborate closely with Operations teams to ensure designs support maintainability, reliability, and lifecycle performance objectives.
• Support sustainability initiatives through optimization of mechanical and plumbing systems for energy efficiency and resource conservation.
• Provide technical oversight and guidance for system layouts, infrastructure planning, and integration within complex data center environments.
• Coordinate with architecture, electrical, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations teams throughout project development and delivery.
• Support project execution through all phases, from concept and design through construction and operational turnover.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required to support business and project objectives.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
• 6-10 years of experience in mechanical engineering design and project delivery for data centers, mission-critical facilities, or large-scale industrial/commercial developments.
• Strong expertise in mechanical and plumbing systems, including piping, water distribution, drainage systems, and supporting infrastructure within complex facilities.
• Proven experience leading technical initiatives, developing engineering standards, and providing guidance to engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of applicable building codes, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Proficiency with engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM platforms.
• Ability to review and interpret construction documents, engineering drawings, specifications, and models.
• Experience collaborating with consultants, contractors, procurement teams, operations teams, and other project stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and evolving project environment.

Preferred

• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Experience supporting projects in North American and/or European construction environments.
• Experience with hyperscale data centers, mission-critical infrastructure, or large campus developments.

Compensation

Compensation will be based on factors such as experience, qualifications, location, and market conditions. In addition to base salary, employees may be eligible for performance-based incentives and a comprehensive benefits package.
