Job summary

Koch Finishing Systems near Grand Rapids, MI seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design and deliver custom automated finishing lines and capital equipment. You’ll handle concept through startup, applying engineering fundamentals to ensure performance and safety, collaborating with controls and fabrication teams.

The role requires a 5+ year background in custom machinery, CAD skills, and experience with tanks, piping, and material handling. Occasional travel may be required as projects deploy.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Mechanical Engineering degree required.
• Minimum 5 years of engineering experience with custom automated machinery or capital equipment.
• Experience applying structural/mechanical analysis, material selection, tolerance stack-up, and failure analysis.
• Working knowledge of pneumatic/hydraulic systems, servo motion, and sheet metal/weldment design.
• Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks/Inventor) and awareness of PLM/PDM a plus.

Responsibilities

• Engineer custom automated capital equipment including plating/anodizing lines, tanks, platforms, piping, and material handling systems.
• Perform structural and mechanical analyses to support design decisions.
• Translate customer requirements into manufacturable equipment solutions.
• Collaborate with controls, project management, and fabrication teams to deliver integrated systems.
• Own mechanical scope from concept through fabrication, installation, and commissioning.
• Produce 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings using CAD software.
• Support scheduling and customer-facing design reviews.
